I am a California-based artist, born and raised in Tehran, Iran, in 1970. My work is deeply influenced by the cultural upheavals I witnessed growing up—particularly the struggles of young Iranian women challenging cultural restrictions. Having lived through the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War, I experienced firsthand the complexities of a rapidly changing society. As a child, I was forced to confront the limitations imposed by these events while simultaneously discovering the uncensored world around me. Art has always been a passion of mine, but the demands of navigating daily challenges took precedence, leaving me to find stability before fully pursuing my creative path. After immigrating to the United States, the support of my family allowed me to focus on my artistic career in ways that were previously impossible. Today, I work with a variety of mediums to create paintings that explore the cultural and political landscape of Iran. My art draws on the vibrant colors and designs of Persian art and architecture, while offering a contemporary perspective that engages viewers both visually and intellectually. Through my work, I aim to provoke thought and evoke emotions, offering a unique window into the complexities of Iranian culture.
